Odamino UX and Design

Overview

OdaminoS/he is playing. is a language learning app for AnishinaabemowinOjibwe Language, originally developed as part of my final-year Studio Project. It started with a user experience design phase and was later brought into development, with additional improvements made during my work placement to improve performance and efficiency.

The app is built around a gamified experience: users care for a virtual pet named EsibanRaccoon by playing language games to earn berries, which can be used to feed and care for him. Esiban’s hunger state changes based on gameplay, with conditional styling reflecting his mood.

The app uses local storage to track berry counts across sessions and screens. Timed gameplay adds a challenge, with modals appearing when time runs out, creating a sense of urgency. This combination of mechanics helps gamify language learning in a fun and engaging way.

The homepage background was sourced from Adobe Stock, and all other visuals were made using Adobe Illustrator.
